BRIEF SUMMARY
During this presentation the following items with be discussed. The rationale for developing telehealth cardiac rehabilitation programs. Current reimbursement models for cardiac rehabilitation. Safety of home-based exercise programs. Exercise prescription and progression.
 
OBJECTIVES

  1. Participants will be able to describe the importance of developing alternative delivery models for cardiac rehabilitation
  2. Participants will increase their understanding of the current reimbursement models for telehealth cardiac rehabilitation
  3. Participants will be understand the safety of home based exercise programs
  4. Participants will learn the unique challenges facing exercise prescription and progression in telehealth cardiac rehabilitation
SPEAKER BIO
Robert Berry is a Master’s prepared clinical exercise physiologist with over 20 years experience in cardiac rehabilitation. He is currently the Clinical Coordinator of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan. Robert holds the ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification and the CEPA Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist distinction. He became a Fellow of AACVPR in 2009. Robert is active in several professional organizations and has served on the AACVPR Health and Public Policy committee, the ACSM Clinical Exam Development Team, and is a past president of CEPA. In 2016, Robert was asked to design and implement a telehealth cardiac rehabilitation program that incorporated all the key components of facility based cardiac rehabilitation. This model became the first telehealth cardiac rehabilitation program in the United States to be reimbursed by a third-party payer and has completed nearly 2000 successful telehealth sessions to date. Robert is currently on the project management team for the iATTEND trial, an NIH sponsored trial looking at the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation via telehealth.
