BRIEF SUMMARY
During this webinar Dr. Emily LaVoy, PhD will provide an overview of the impact of chronic and acute exercise on the immune system. She will further discuss the role of exercise in chronic disease prevention via immune regulation, and whether exercise may impact risk for infectious disease.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand the effects of acute and chronic exercise on the immune system
  2. Identify several ways in which exercise may prevent inflammatory diseases
  3. Appreciate the complexity of understanding whether exercise reduces or increases infection risk
SPEAKER BIO
Dr. LaVoy is an assistant professor in exercise physiology at the University of Houston. She runs a funded, active research program focusing on exercise immunology. More specifically, she investigates how exercise may improve diseases and conditions associated with immune dysregulation, such as cancer and age-related declines in immunity.
