Getting Better Together: Strengthening the Dementia Partnership with Resistance Exercise Training
Michael Bruneau Jr, PhD; Drexel University

Dr. Bruneau is an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences in the College of Nursing and Health Professions with a joint appointment in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at Drexel University. His research interests include the use of physical activity and exercise as nonpharmacological lifestyle therapies for the prevention, treatment, and control of cardiometabolic disease. His more recent work has involved the examination of supervised exercise in clinical populations including those living Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He has served on regional and national committees for the American College of Sports Medicine and the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association.

Meeting the Needs of the Cancer Survivor: Empowerment Through Strength Training and Exercise Recommendations
Scott Capozza, MPT, PT; Yale New Haven Hospital

Mr. Capozza earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ithaca College. In 2006 he was hired as the first outpatient physical therapist at Smilow Cancer Hospital Survivorship Clinic at Yale Cancer Center, Yale New Haven Hospital. He is part of a multi-disciplinary oncology rehabilitation team addressing the concerns of adult cancer survivors as they transition into long term survivorship. He provides individualized strength training and cardiovascular exercise programs in accordance with evidence-based practice. Scott is a board-certified clinical specialist in oncologic physical therapy and serves on committees within the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Oncologic Physical Therapy.

Designing a Functional Strength Training Program
Brian Thompson PhD, ATC, CSCS*D, RSCC*E, PN1, Springfield College

Dr. Thompson is the Director of Strength and Conditioning, a Professor of Exercise Science, and the Graduate Strength and Conditioning Program Director at Springfield College. He oversees the strength and conditioning program design and implementation for all Springfield College teams. Brian started working in the field of strength and conditioning in 1986 and has trained athletes at all levels from youth to Olympic. He has given presentations and/or conducted strength and conditioning related workshops around the globe. Coach Thompson received his Bachelors of Science from Ball State University and his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois.

Resistance Exercise for Individuals Living with Diabetes

Jason Aziz, PhD

Dr. Aziz completed a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire and earned a doctorate in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition Science from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. He has over 30 years of experience as a clinical exercise physiologist helping hundreds of patients living with cardio-metabolic diseases. Jason also served as the chairperson for The New Hampshire Governor’s Council on Physical Activity & Health. His research interests include nutrition epidemiology, diet assessment, measurement of sarcopenia in older adults and anthropometric predictors of subclinical indicators of diabetes and prediabetes.

Resistance Training for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Patient: Practical Tips for the Clinical Exercise Physiologist
Peter Ronai, MS ACSM-CEP, ACSM-EP, EIM Level III, CSCS, FACSM; Sacred Heart University 

Mr. Ronai is a clinical Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at the Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a member of the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association. He writes articles regarding proper resistance training exercise technique performance, exercise programming for persons with chronic diseases and disorders, and online tips and tools that exercise professionals can access to better serve their clients.
